Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South Carolina and a satellite city of Charlotte, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 49,765. According to 2004 estimates the city has a population of 57,902. The city is included in the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord metropolitan statistical area, which has a population of 1,474,734 according to the 2004 estimate by the U.S. Census Bureau.

As of the census of 2000, there are 49,765 people, 18,750 households, and 12,093 families residing in the city. The population density is 619.2/km2 (1,603.8/mi2). There are 20,287 housing units at an average density of 252.4/km2 (653.8/mi2). The racial makeup of the city is 58.74% White, 37.33% African American, 0.50% Native American, 1.39% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 2.48% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
